Auxiliary Logo Full ColorThe American Legion Auxiliary Department (State) of Florida sponsors Florida Girls State. Founded in 1919, the American Legion Auxiliary is the world’s largest patriotic women’s service organization, with a membership of nearly 850,000. Local American Legion Auxiliary Units have a strong presence in more than 9,500 communities nationwide. The American Legion Auxiliary’s mission to serve veterans, their families and their communities is carried out through its hundreds of outreach programs delivered by its members, volunteers and National Headquarters. Safety

Our Staff members are trained in accordance with the Florida Board of Health requirements by the staff at Florida State University. We have two registered nurses on our Florida Girls State Staff to assist our citizens during their week with any medical needs they may have. Additionally, we have 5 Female Florida Highway Patrol Officers who live and travel with the girls at all times throughout the session.

Florida State University has a fully operational University Police Department (UPD). The UPD consists of 26 FL Trooper-trained police officers who are visible and on call 24 hours a day to ensure our safety throughout our stay on campus.

A. Two Plus Two Scholarship

A full “Two Plus Two” College Scholarship to attend two years at Tallahassee Community College followed by two years at Florida State University.

FGS Staff

The staff of Florida Girls State consists of American Legion Auxiliary members who volunteer their time to insure the success of the program.

Our security is provided by female officers of the Florida Highway Patrol.
